Sea kayak surfing Cumbria coastline, Haverigg - With GoPro Video

Last Friday evening we decided to dash over to Cumbria's premier sea kayak surfing spot Haverigg and I finally got the opportunity to test my new GoPro chest mount.

If you look at the Cumbrian coast on Magic Seaweed, Silecroft is one of the listed surf spots, unfortunately the surf only forms at mid to low tide and at high tide it becomes a stony dumping beach.

A few miles down the coast is the village of Haverigg. Haverigg has a sand bar which forms quickly after the turn of the tide and becomes the perfect spot for an evenings surfing. Here's the video and some pics of our evenings fun.

Heading back around the sand bar.

Summary

A big flat sandy beach, perfect for a quick surf session.

Additional information

Distance
13km
Tides
The outgoing tide from Haverigg is quite strong, so expect hard work getting back to the car park
Swell
With any luck you'll have some! Check Silecroft on Magic Seaweed for surf conditions
Access
There's small parking area, follow signs to the beach. On your return trip, paddle back around the sand bar and follow the shallow stream until paddling becomes impossible. We made it within about 100 metres of the beach parking.
Other recommended routes
If the surf is too big or broken, both the Duddon and Ravenglass estuary's are worth exploring.
